Ebm - Jazz-Rock Fusion Backing Track (i V, 136bpm)

from Jazz-Rock Fusion Backing Tracks - All 12 minor Keys by Cliff Smith Guitar Lessons

/

about

This backing track has an energetic jazz-rock fusion feel; organ, electric bass and drums. You can practice your chord playing, solo over the track, or jam along on bass or drums.

Chord i from the key of Eb minor: Ebm7, Ebm6.
Chord V from the key of Eb minor: Bb7, Bb9, Bb7#9, Bb7#5#9.
If you want to simplify the chords, just play Ebm and Bb7.

The Ebm6 chord (Eb, Gb, Bb, C) suggests the the Eb dorian mode: Eb, F, Gb, Ab, Bb, C, Db.
The dorian mode also works over Ebm7 (Eb, Gb, Bb, Db), so you can play dorian for the whole Cm section.
The Bb7 chord (Bb, D, F, Ab) suggests the Eb harmonic minor scale: Eb, F, Gb, Ab, Bb, Cb, D.
The Bb9 chord (Bb, D, F, Ab, C) suggests the Eb melodic minor scale: Eb, F, Gb, Ab, Bb, C, D.
The Bb7#9 chord (Bb, D, F, Ab, C#) contains both D and C#, so the Eb dorian mode or Eb harmonic minor scale should work.
The Bb7#5#9 chord (Bb, D, F#, Ab, C#) contains both D and C#, so the Eb dorian mode or Eb harmonic minor scale should work. You could also use the Bb whole tone scale: Bb, C, D, E, Gb, Ab.

A simpler approach would be to use the Eb dorian mode over the whole Ebm section, and the Eb harmonic minor scale over the whole Bb7 section.

You can also use arpeggios of course, and pentatonic and blues scales!
